Cyclathon Launch Event

Join in the fun at the FREE Launch Event – Sunday, 4th September.

Pedal away with your family and friends and have a great day out.

Raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal or a charity of your choice on Launch Day and over the following fortnight up to 18th September

Launch start time & location

Any time between 10.30am – 11am at Barnhill Rock Gardens, Broughty Ferry. Cyclists will depart in small groups.

Registration will open at 9.30am onwards to issue you with your number.

You can have your bike checked over by Dr. Bikes who will offer you a free safety check.

Launch Day Route

Entrants will cycle from the Barnhill Rock Gardens, Broughty Ferry to the Dundee Cycle Hub (near the V & A) and back. Distance – 11 miles approx.

What happens at the Cycle Hub?

Take a breather before you set off on your return journey.

Pick up your Cyclathon medal to thank you for taking part and raising money for charity.

Buy a drink or something to eat at the Cycle Hub Café to set you up for your journey back.

Enjoy the cycle based entertainment on hand.

Have a go on the Muckmedden Pump Track or the Cycle Hub’s “Crazy Bikes” or “Smoothy Bike” (images below).

The first 50 entrants will receive a free STV Children’s Appeal T-shirt.

It is free to enter, thanks to the financial support of Cycling Scotland and Sustrans.

After the last day of the Cyclathon – 18th September, all entrants will receive a Cyclathon certificate and will be entered into a free draw to win a new bike.

It is your chance to be a local hero and raise money for the STV Children’s Appeal to support the 1 in every 4 young people who are living in poverty. You can also raise money for your chosen charity.

  • Who can enter?

    Anyone above the age of 5 and less than 100, who can ride a bike.  The Launch Day event is ideal for all types of bikes, even bikes with no gears.

    Any child who requires the use of a bike on Launch Day can contact Ian Balgowan on ian.balgowan@gmail.com and Recycle will endeavour to provide one.

    Children under the age of 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

     

  • What happens after Launch Day?

    Keep on pedalling over the next fortnight, up to 18th September to see how much money you can raise.

    You can cycle anywhere in your local area in your own time and at your own pace. You can pedal outdoors on your bike or indoors on your exercise bike.

  • Where can I park?

    Please Note: Due to the ongoing work on the new flood defences and the cycle path, the esplanade will be closed to all vehicular traffic coming from the west. There will however be access from the Bridge Street end and traffic will be allowed to travel in both directions between there and the entrance to the car park beside the football pitch. There will be adequate car parking with vehicles allowed to park at both sides of the esplanade. If you are cycling, you will be able to travel on the east bound carriageway which currently has a temporary cycle path.
